Education New Zealand (ENZ) administrates the Manaaki New Zealand Scholarship, funded through the New Zealand Aid Program. Applications are open through New Zealand Foreign Affairs & Trade for study in 2025
International students from eligible countries across the Pacific, Asia, Africa, Latin America, and the Caribbean countries are eligible to commence full-time study from Semester 1, 2025.
Founded in 1919, The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade is the public service department of New Zealand charged with advising the government on foreign and trade policy and promoting New Zealand’s interests in trade and international relations.
Why apply to this program? The purpose of the award program is to provide receivers with academic study to learn new skills and acquire knowledge to support the social and economic development of their country when they return home.

- Acceptable Course or Subjects: The scholarship will be awarded for the following courses:
- Undergraduate Degree (3-4 years)
- Postgraduate Certificate (6 months)
- Postgraduate Diploma (1 year)
- Master’s Degree (1-2 years)
- PhD (3.5 years)
- Admissible Criteria: To be eligible, the applicants must meet all the following criteria:
- Applicants can study in New Zealand and one of any Pacific, Asia, African, Latin American, or Caribbean countries.
- Applicants must be 18 years old or older when they start their scholarship. This means if they are 17 years of age when they apply, they must have their 18th birthday before they start their scholarship in semester one. There is no upper age limit for applicants. However, the university prefers applicants who are under 40 years of age.

- Admission Requirements: Entry requirements for University courses vary from country to country. However, to apply for a scholarship, applicants must meet all of the eligibility criteria.
- Language Requirement: If English is not the first language of applicants, they will need to provide proof of their English proficiency.
Benefits
New Zealand Foreign Affairs & Trade will provide all the following:
- Full tuition fees.
- Living allowance (a stipend) of NZ$531 per week
- An establishment allowance of NZ$3000 helps with set-up costs in New Zealand.
- Medical insurance when you are in New Zealand.
- Tutoring costs up to the value of NZ$1000 to assist with the cost of additional tutoring while you are studying if needed.
- Travel to and from your own country
- Travel Insurance
- Travel home during your scholarship. Scholars studying over 1.6 years are entitled to travel home to visit family (usually allow for one or two trips, depending on the length of the scholarship)
- Reintegration allowance of NZ$1000 to help with set-up costs upon your return to your home country.
- Help with research and thesis costs for many postgraduate students.
