The United Nations Research Institute for Social Development (UNRISD) has taken the initiative to increase awareness on the urgency to build a new eco-social contract based on visions of justice, equality and sustainability. It has organized the #CrisesofInequality UNRISD Media Contest for the year 2024-2025.
Participation in this competition can be made by press, radio and TV journalists and media actors working in any language. They must prepare an entry for print, audio or video. A total of 4 winners will be awarded two prizes of $500, one of $750, and one of $1,000.

Eligibility
- Eligible Countries: Individuals from all countries are eligible to apply.
- Eligible Course or Subjects: Candidates can undertake a role of a journalist.
- Eligibility Criteria: To be eligible, the applicants must meet all the following/given criteria:
- The applicants must be active journalists.
How to Apply
- How to Apply: Interested candidates are required to publish their stories in a media outlet (not self-published) between 21 October and 4 December 2022 or also share it on social media using the hashtag #crisesofinequality. They must then complete their entry by submitting this form.
- Supporting Documents: The candidates must prepare an entry no longer than 1,500 words for print, 15 minutes for audio, and 5 minutes for video.
- Admission Requirements: The applicant must be a journalist working at the intersection of social and environmental justice
- Language Requirement: The applicants must be fluent and proficient in English.
Benefits
The United Nations Research Institute for Social Development (UNRISD) will award four winners the following prizes:
- 1stprize – USD 1,000
- 2ndprize – USD 750
- 3rdprize – USD 500
- Special prize – USD 500 to the best publication from a young (under the age of 30) reporter outside of the top three.
